Practical Wisdom

Character in Deeds is developing a shared framework to clarify Baylor’s core character commitments and strengthen continuity across the student experience. This draft framework reflects ongoing dialogue with faculty, staff, coaches, and leaders from academics, student life, spiritual life, and athletics. The framework will continue to evolve through structured feedback.

Proposed Timeline

  • Fall 2025 Community of Practice develop a draft of the framework

  • Spring 2026 Seek feedback on draft

  • Fall 2026 Community of Practice refine framework

  • Spring 2027 Seek feedback on framework

  • Fall 2027 Disseminate the framework

Provide Feedback

During Fall 2025, we started a community of practice — a group of people who already form students every day: faculty, staff, coaches, and leaders from every corner of campus. Our goal was simple but ambitious—to craft a unified, living framework that brings coherence to Baylor’s character formation work and names the throughlines already woven through our university. Over six meetings in Fall 2025, the group drafted a framework that meets two essential criteria:

  1. Alignment with Baylor’s mission and Christian commitments, and

  2. Broad applicability, allowing every unit and individual who contributes to student development to connect their work to the framework.

The framework presented here is the result of that shared imagination—a draft, a beginning, a starting point for deeper conversation and continued refinement. What you see today is not the final framework but the first faithful attempt to articulate a Baylor-wide vision for character formation. We share this draft with a simple request: help us see what we cannot see alone. What did we get right? What did we misunderstand? What is missing or needs strengthening? Where might we go from here?

Your feedback will shape the next round of revisions and guide us toward a framework that truly reflects Baylor’s mission, identity, and community. Thank you for engaging with us in this process and for helping us build a character education framework that offers a compelling vision and shared narrative for the transformational experiences we provide throughout every student’s journey at Baylor.
